Flutes at Stonehaven Folk Festival

Traditional flutes return to Stonehaven

The next big event in the diary for traditional flute players in Scotland is the Stonehaven Folk Festival 7-9 July, which features both concerts and workshops.

Nuala Kennedy, Tom Oakes and Tiernan Courell will all be involved at different points at this friendly and long established festival that always sees a strong  turnout from the Aberdeen trad flute community.

Nuala Kennedy headlines the Friday concert and will also be leading a flute workshop. Tom Oakes will be performing with Shetland fiddler Ross Couper and also teaching flute.

Tiernan Courell will teach children’s whistle workshops and perform with his band Trip. See Peter Saunders’ interview with him on YouTube on the Scottish Flute Channel. If that wasn’t enough, Irish band The Jeremiahs feature French born Julien Bruneteau on flutes and whistles.

Check out the workshops timetable here. Or go to the Stonehaven Festival website to book for concerts and workshops.
